Here we go
to the second part of the review. In the first part of this book which is How You Got This Way, Jen starts with
how should we start or even begin. The first part consist of 5 chapter.
The first chapter is My Subconscious Made It.
As humans,
we have a conscious mind and a subconscious mind.
Conscious
mind is our ability to think, about what is right and wrong, the real reality.
Whilst Subconscious is our pure and innocent that does not understand what is
right or wrong, they believe in whatever they hear or see, it developed to be
our feeling and instinct.
Say our
conscious mind is gas while our subconscious mind is the brake. As I have said,
everything a conscious mind believes we see and hear. If our parents say that
the woman’s duty is just to take care household and no need to work to pursue
their dream, we will believe. Aside parents, we also believe what society brainwash
in our minds, like size matters, you have to be white to be beautiful, we will
believe. And what's worse, what they put into our minds—which likely not
entirely true—will develop into beliefs, which can limit our minds.
"Most people are living in an illusion based on someone else’s beliefs."
Say, your
conscious mind ask that you should hang out, meet new people or even travel abroad,
but you are growing up belief that you should avoid strangers, or the world is
a dangerous place—because your parents told you so—automatically your
subconscious mind stops you from doing what you conscious mind asked you.
Our
subconscious mind limits us to grow, to look for our true identity and made us
close-minded whilst we are fed up enough with the mumbo jumbo society told us.
And that is
the first step to changes, realize the real reason we can’t change and we
should be open-minded.
The second chapter is The G Word.
Jen said,
as another self-help-improving book. God would always be included. But, she
never truly believe in that matter specifically. Until, she decided to start to
believe again just because she had nothing to lose. Then, she started to notice
something different happens and are going to happen to her life.
“This is about your faith being greater than your fear.”
Instead being afraid of anything—in improving
yourself specifically—you just gotta believe in God that everything is already
written and decided even in most uncertain things. You just gotta open your
mind and believe that there is something bright after everything you have done.
The next chapter is Present as Pigeon.
Keep an open mind is truly blessed on our life. It’d
open all closed door that hold you at some point. Open mind is having a mind
that see everything in the positive way, see a good in a bad.
As our mind open, we start to see opportunity in the
simplest thing. As a matter of fact, opportunities is already exist around us.
It’s just that we get so overwhelmed and we are not yet aware of their existence.
Therefore, sometimes we just gotta take a minute to be thankful on what we have
and feel right now. By thankful, we start to notice all the opportunities we
have not yet notice.
The next chapter is The Big Snooze.
Author refers The Big Snooze as Ego which means the
part of our body that stop us for being happy. Ego stop us to see the world
more brighter and broader. It’s like let us sleep on how truly powerful we are
or how massively our universe is. Ego, also means that we let unnecessary
people taking part in our life.
“…having others smear their fear and worry all over you is the last thing you need when you’re strengthening your superhero muscles to step out and take some risks.”
Sometimes in life you face people that doesn’t like
your success in life, and concern about what you doing in life. And sometimes, that’s
what stop us for doing what we like, we are so fed up on what others say that
we afraid to start something new. And, having people like that surrounding you
is the last thing you need in order to develop yourself. You just gotta trust
in yourself, and move on.
“…Trust that your new life is already here and is far better than the old.”
The final chapter of the first part is Self-Perception is A Zoo.
Self-perception or as we know as self-love is the
most important thing to self-help development. We spend our lives ignore
ourselves and busy with what people’s life. We are anxious if people success
and we let ourselves drown with a self-disappointment.
For a started we should be our own fans that support
and accept everything we are.
“You are a badass. You can’t screw up so majorly that your badassery disappears. It is who you are. It’s who you always will be.”
We should have trust and love our own self, because
if it doesn’t us, who does?
Loving yourself means that you won’t give up on you,
once you fall, you would bring yourself up. You let yourself begin your each
journey in starting your new best life. You are perfect in every way, you are
one persistent human being that doesn’t give a single care to what everyone
says about your journey.
And that wrapped up the first part of this book. In
conclusion, to change your life its all come within yourself. You have to conscious
on what you should trust or no, that doesn’t get in the way of your journey.
You should open your mind, and notice all the existence of opportunities that
God has given you. You should never trust what everyone said about you that let
you down. You should love yourself, because you are a badass.
