Studying at education department, pushed me to be familiar with education system in all over the world. I'm not complaining tho. I probably will not seek any information about world education system if its not for an assignment. However, it blew my mind that every state that I reached, the education is what makes it evolved. It spoke to me that education is that powerful to change a state, let alone world.
As I surfing on the internet, my friend, I was shock as I can remember. That Qatar, which considered as the one of the richest country in the world, had been in the 64 place in the world education ranking, even lowest than Indonesia, our beloved country. source here
However, what amazed me was they develop their education just as fast as I gone sleep after a long day work. Now, that Qatar had develop their education, they become one of the country with the best education. They expected to be well-prepared to face the competition in the upcoming world education in 2030.
Basically Qatar has the same education system with Indonesia.
1. 6 years of primary school
2. 3 years of middle school
3. 3 years of secondary school
4. also there is vocational school just as similar with SMK in Indonesia.
Qatar also offered free school for public or government school. Honestly, looking at this there is no much gap between Qatar and Indonesia. However, Qatar is open with innovation and renovation in education sector.
Learning delivered in English, given the fact that English is not their first language. In addition, Qatar focus on technical information. This way, student is prepared to be ready to face the global world with enough foundation, which was English and Technology skills.
Along as the richest country, they provide their young generation to learn as much as possible. They offered free school, and scholarships that are easier to get. The facilities in each school is the best way school can get. Through facilities, Qatar advanced their student ability.
Teachers is well-paid, for their high quality. This way, the teacher can provide their best effort to give the lecture. They believe that education system is hard to reach if they had no high-quality teacher to provide their human resources.
I don't think that there is massive difference with Indonesia's education system, means that it is possible for Indonesia to follow Qatar's foot step.
We acknowledge that in Indonesia teacher doesn't get the appreciation they should get. There are still so many teacher with poor-paid, given the fact that they are the one who supposed to bring changes to the country, by prepare the citizen itself.
Also, to distribute the same education with the same facilities is pretty hard, because Indonesia is a big country with huge amount of island spreading all over it. On some area, some students had to fight for life just to reach the school, let alone spreading facilities evenly.
However, even Indonesia is considered as citizen who can adapt another language easily, especially English, it is still hard to apply English as the mediator in learning process.
It's hard, but its not impossible. If only within government, teacher, and student can cooperative to bring education as advance as possible, Indonesia can compete in any higher world competition.
